So Sick of Being Sick

I just saw that I last blogged a whole week and a half ago. That's quite a long time between posts. I think you will have noticed that the frequency of my posts has really started to stretch out. It's not that I have less things to say, just seem to be so busy recently. I used to say that time is not an issue for me, but it is starting to all be really rushed now.

Being sick recently hasn't helped. I've got a cold and the sneezing and coughing is really driving me crazy. The light headed feeling also isn't much fun. I keep dozing in and out of sleep all day. I shouldn't have gone to work that first couple of days, but being stupid, I went and probably made the situation worse. My work mate said "Why are you trying to be a hero and coming to work." My thoughts were that I wasn't trying to be brave. It's just that unless I'm so sick I can't move, why not go to work.

I think the work at all cost attitude has been hammered into my brain through years of watching my parents. They would never take a day off sick unless it was so bad. It's just the Asian way. However, you probably make the situation worse by not resting and most likely will spread the virus to your work mates too.

Having the cold hence has made me drag things out longer than they should. I did my individual tax recently and that wasn't too bad. Once I sorted out all my deductions, it was fairly straightforward. However, my business tax is giving me headaches. I was trying to read the information yesterday and after about 2 hours, just got so dizzy and gave up. I've finally worked out all the numbers after a couple of days, but will need to double check that I'm putting all the right values to the right columns.

It just shows that you shouldn't leave things go. It would have been so easy if I had kept up to date with my records, but I just kept saying I'll do it later. Hence, all the papers piled up on my desk and even sorting through those took forever. My memory of what happened when also was not as accurate as I thought.

If I don't feel any better tonight, I think I might take tomorrow off and get some more things done at home. There's just not enough hours in the day for me to waste and watch all my tv shows, read newspapers, read and write blogs, work on the business and go out and have some fun.

I have learnt not to impose my standard on others. To each his own. Just as water finds it own level, I only try to encourage all I know to achieve a higher level of comfort for themselves.

Within myself, I know that at the start of joining a toastmaster's club I am at a certain level, but after completing more than 49 projects, my level of performance should be better.

If we keep imposing our standards on others; we will only be disappointed and disillusioned. Let us emulate those whose examples are worth emulating.

Patient Do,

There are several reasons why you always sick.

I'll list a few.

1. Your fat and lazy. Stop eating so much and move around abit. Flicking the remote doesn't count as exercise.

2. You don't take vitimins and multiminerals.

3. Your fat and stupid.

And please stop leaving your snorty tissues in other people's places. Not only is it gross but spreading your germs to innocent civilians is WRONG!!!!!

Choo, well said as usual. I like the "water finds its own level" quote, I'll probably steal that and use it occasionally.

Doctor Lithgow, I thought flicking the remote was enough exercise to compensate for eating a Snickers bar.

I don't like taking any type of pills.

How does stupid have anything to do with it?

How is it called leaving it all over the place when I chuck it in the BIN. Isn't that what a bin is for?

Fat Do,

Vitamins and multivitamins are not pills, they are just tablets which you put in your mouth and swallow. They are simply supplements for your body that you lack from not eating and exercising right. How can that be a problem for your mouth, afterall you jam tonnes of M&Ms and lobsters down your gob.

That's why Fat Do not at work today. Wormald would not be happy.

Anonymous, vitamins are good for me for sure, but not necessarily those from a pill. I eat lots of fruit already.

From your article that you wrote, comes the following quotes:

"Many studies have since shown that vitamins from supplements do not act on the body in the same way as vitamins from foods."

"In contrast, a 2004 Cochrane review of studies found there was not enough evidence that 2000mg vitamin C supplements prevented colds in the general population. More recently, the US Women's Health Study found a link between vitamin C supplements and an increased risk of hardening arteries in some people with diabetes."

"Dietitians, nutritionists and other experts are all agreed that apart from small groups of people in special medical circumstances, most of us don't need to take vitamins or food supplements. We can get what we need from a balanced diet."

"A further reason to avoid mega doses of vitamins is that they can have toxic effects. We do need vitamins, but more is not necessarily better."

"Even the water-soluble vitamin C can cause diarrhoea at levels of 2000mg a day, which is lower than the amount some people take in the hope of staving off colds."

Anonymous 2, I think all the previous quotes answer your questions regarding taking vitamin pills. I eat lots of fruits already and that is the best vitamin, don't need a pill.

Perhaps you should do more research from just one source. Sure you get vitamins from fruit, but do you eat enough of it?

Research also shows that to fulfill your daily requirements of vitamins and minerals, you need to consume a very large amount of fruits, vegetables, bread, meats, etc. This amount is simply impossible to take even for Fat Do Mao.

Vitamins in tablet form "supplements" this. So you don't stuff yourself and looking like Fat Do Mao after a visit to the local fish and chip shop. And one important fact, the brand and types of vitimins and multiminerals is an very important too. Quality is more important than quantity.

Fat Hobbo Do, ask you mother if she had given you Cod liver oil when you were young, if not, it explains why you are so sick all the time. So stop blaming the health system instead blame your lack of ideas and your jit mun.

Actually you don't have to take a large amount of fruits and vegetable a day to stay healthy. the lastest WHO guidelines is 5-9 servings a day.

Doctor Lithgow, firstly that source was provided by another reader.

Secondly, maybe you should do more research too. Because I've seen research where small amounts of fruit and veg a day are enough vitamins for anyone.

When did I blame the health system. What about the billions of poor Sudanese who can't take vitamin supplements, they're doing just fine hanging around Noble Park.

Anonymous, so going by your study of two people, you've come to the conclusion right? Great study. Plus when am I sick "all" the time, puh-lease. This is like my 3rd sick day all year.

ENUF SAID from me, please respond. :-)

Sharon, thanks for the article from HARVARD. I'm sure they know how to do proper research.

5-9 servings a day of fruit isn't much??

Oh what am i saying? of course that's nothing for you. But it doesn't mean it's ok to take your daily 10-20 servings of chicken and chocolate fudge.

sigh... never mind you just keep getting sick and take no heed to people who know how to stay healthy despite working longer hours and travel greater distances than you.

Simply saying you won't take pills because you "don't like" to just shows that you are still a bratty little Nizmo who needs a full time spanking.

Dear anonymous -
firstly, this Sharon girl as you called me is a living breathing human being... and she is someone who expresses her opinions on this blog just as much as you have.

secondly, please note that never once have i claimed to be an 'expert' as you put it and i believe it was you who called me an expert.... thank you for that. it is such a compliment! also please note that i never said i know medicine or claimed to be knowledgeable about the field of medicine. It is however common knowledge that one should take 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetable a day, where I used to live, there were constant media campaign on this, and assuming that if there are no such media campaign on this where you come from, then really you should read some health magazine or books. You should also be aware that it is always better to take things in its natural forms and not stuff that have been made artificially in a lab that have been puff up with heaven know what chemical and ingredient.

Thirdly you are not much of a gentleman are you? (that is assuming that you are male) you should never tell a lady that she knows squat. It is rather impolite and if you are a woman (which I seriously doubt given the nature of the comments you have made) you should be ashamed of yourself

Fourthly didnt anyone ever teach you that if you dont have anything nice to say then you shouldnt say it. And stop calling my friend FAT and STUPID!!!! He is not fat or stupid. He is a very passionate person which is more than I can say for you and your comments.

Miss Sharon,

Please step and take a chill pill. Your opinions are welcome and they are valid in some ways. But the fact is you can't overwrite facts with fiction which you have done with your googling. Doctor Lithgow has been a reknowned medical practioner in over several decades and is well respected in the community. You should never undermind someone who has proven track reckon is his field so don't go off and saying "SO WHAT" just because you don't agree with him. Maybe he might help you out with your mental state. I hear shock treatment is the answer. I'll send you his business card.

5-9 servings a day is not friction at all. if you did more extensive research yourself - you would realise it is true. i seriously doubt that Dr. Lithgow can help me at all... and are u claiming now to be an expert in the medical field? you seems to be giving free medical advice.

dr. lithgow - woah.... u amaze me... not only are you a md. you are also a psychiatric? and dr. lithgow - if you read my earlier comment you would have realised that i said - i never claimed to be an expert in the medical field. i believe it is our dear friend anonymous who claimed it....

Sharon,

5-9 servings a day is a valid statement but like I said, it's not alway possible. Not everyone like you can eat that much in a day so that's the purpose of supplements which is easier to swallow in pill form.

Doctor Lithgow is the expert and professional, not me. I just learn from him which you should too as it seems you gain "knowledge" on the internet.

Internet is just a giant forum for "wannabe" experts giving their two cents of topics they know jack all about. I think you should appreciate Doctor Lithgow's offer to treat your mental disability. Nothing comes for free nowadays.

Dear A,

5-9 servings is doable... and trust me, it is better to take things in its natural form then to take mass-produce chemical-treated lab items such as pills. if you can't do it, then there is always the options of juicing....

please be informed that the internet is not my source of information. i don't believe everything i read on the internet. however, I have done my research on the subject on 'eating healthy' and the site was just to reiterate my points and argument. it was also so that stubborn pushy ppl like you would actually read it and get off your high horse to realise that there is a valid argument in what was being written. any normal person would realise this and weight both side of the argument.... but then again, maybe you are not normal. perhaps you should take up dr. lithgow's offer.

go natural.... haven't u seen enough signs around you???? oh but that rite, you are not normal... hummmmm......

Again you prove your ignorance or stupidity or both.

The "pills" that myself and the good doctor promote are not "chemically" made bullshit that you think we are reffering to. The vitamins and mutiminerals we promote are 100$% natural and organic. No chemicals are involved. And you think eating fruit is natural. Tell me you never seen the pesticides they spray on them??? Food quality nowadays is lacking. Soil is not what they used to be.

So please just get off your "pommel horse" and your dancing poles and go back to being an "expert" at whatever you do and stop embarrasing yourself with your knowledge of medicine.

k,

No one here is trying to push sales of pills. It's just a point that myself and Doctor Lithgow are trying to convey that there supplements out there which are natural and organically manufactured that have been proved SAFE and beneficial to our health. Of course not everyone needs as much as others, put for those who are lacking due to busy lifestyle and not eating right, there are safe and affordable alternatives out there that can offer them better well-being. Otherwise they are only left to the risks of illness due to pollution, stress, smoking, junkfood, lack of sleep, etc, which are REAL hazards to our health and hence our average lifespan.

Sharon Mole,

Well done more internet sites. Who needs education and experience. We've got it all with our mouse and keyboard. Doctor Lithgow, your knowledge has been superseded by Cyber Space.

Mr. Do,

Oh please!!!

Shannon you are just a library of misconception and ignorance.

Like I said earlier, the type and brand of these supplements is important. Sure there are some that are chemically made and mass manufactured that do more harm than good. But you just keep googling to the wrong sites and at the wrong information.

Organic supplements are just made of fruits, vegatables, meats, etc, compressed into a small tablet. Nothing more!!! The only thing they lack compared to actual fruits and foods is water and fibre. But we all drink water and we all eat some fruits/vegetables to make up for that. I did not say just take pills and don't eat anything else. Those pills are not Miracle Pills, they are just there to SUPPLEMENT what we are lacking from an improper diet or heavier lifestyle. So Mr. Fatty Do can still have his daily KFC and chocolates, as long as he SUPPLEMENTS what he is missing from not eating from the top of the food pyramid.

Miss Mole, I await your next response with your dodgy internet sites and other sources.

BAK CHI!!!
